【念修四支】
Four Stages of Approach and Accomplishment

進行咒語的「念修」時,只要觀想咒鬘即可。真正說來,只觀想咒鬘,即是修習智慧尊。在「近修」時,應該要懂得觀想咒鬘轉繞。懂得轉繞咒鬘的觀想,就是懂得修習「近修」。再來,若觀放光、光芒收攝,就是「修持」。「修持」這個階段是需要培養、逐漸熟練的。最後,若知「一切皆佛」,便是「大修」。

When practicing the “approach” (Tib. nyenpa; Wyl. bsnyen pa), it is enough to just visualize the mantra garland. In fact, visualizing the mantra garland itself is the practice of jnanasattva, the wisdom being. During the practice of “intimate or close approach” (Tib. nyenyen; Wyl. nye bsnyen), you should visualize the rotating of mantra garland. If you know how to visualize the rotation of mantra garland, then you know how to practice the “intimate or close approach”. After that, visualizing the radiating and absorbing of light is the practice of “accomplishment” (Tib. drubpa; Wyl. sgrub pa). This is the stage that needs to be cultivated and familiarized gradually. Finally, if you know “everything is Buddha”, then it is the “great accomplishment” (Tib. drupchen; Wyl. sgrub ch'en).

 

所以,一開始只是專注地觀咒輪。如此念了幾萬遍咒語,也懂得觀修咒輪的方法後,能夠觀得一清二楚,便可以觀想咒鬘緩緩旋繞,這就是「近修」。再來,咒鬘從緩慢轉繞而逐漸加快,變得非常快速,快到只聞咒音,不見咒字,這也屬於近修。之後,心懷慈悲,觀想放出慈悲的光芒,就是「修持」。由於放出慈悲之光,所以一切眾生如同冰塊般頑冥的心遂得以融化,一切眾生皆成佛,就是「大修」。眾生都成了觀音,一道反覆誦著「嗡嘛呢貝美吽…」。

 

Therefore, just concentrating on the visualization of mantra garland when you begin to practice. After a few ten thousands of recitation and some experience of meditating on the mantra garland, you may start to rotate it slowly if you can visualize it clearly. This is the practice of “intimate or close approach”. Later, you may speed up with the spinning of mantra garland, even as fast as when you only hear the sounds without seeing the syllables, it is also part of the practice of “intimate or close approach”. After that, with compassion in mind, visualizing the emanation of light of compassion is the practice of “accomplishment”. The light of compassion shines upon all beings and their ice-like thickheaded minds melt away and thus all become Buddhas. This is the practice of “great accomplishment”. All beings become Avalokiteshvaras and recite the mantra of “Om Mani Padme Hung” altogether.

用所謂的「喻光明」來解釋的話,首先是「如同閃耀的星鬘環繞明月」,就是「念修」。再來,「猶如旋火輪而轉繞」,也就是一個接一個咒字排列旋轉著,則是「近修」。「如同欽差一般行事」,即為「修持」,透過放光、收攝光芒,以集攝一切諸佛加持,濟助一切眾生,就像轉手將所得錢財分贈眾生一般。「大修」則是一切眾皆成佛陀色身,我們稱之為「如同蜂巢傾毀一般」,因為蜜蜂是群居的昆蟲,當蜂巢被毀,蜂群一湧而出,聽起來就是一片嗡嗡聲。

To explain [the Four Stages] with “metaphoric clear light”, the first “approach” is the recitation “like a moon with a garland of stars”. The second “close approach” is the recitation “like a spinning firebrand”, with all the syllables lined side by side while rotating. Then, the “accomplishment” is the recitation “like a king’s messenger” which collects all the blessings of Buddhas and benefits all sentient beings by way of projection and absorption of light, just like giving out the wealth you just obtained. [Finally], the “great accomplishment” when all beings become Buddhas is the recitation “like a broken beehive”. It is called so since when the beehive is broken, the bee community swarms off altogether with a humming sound.

就像喇嘛索南打電話回噶爾寺時,通話的空白時間,話筒也會傳來陣陣「班雜嘰哩嘰拉牙…」的聲音,蜂巢傾毀的比喻與此雷同。所有眾生都成了佛,同聲念誦咒語,如同蜂巢傾毀時排山倒海的蜂鳴聲,就是「大修」。

It is like when Lama Sonam called back to Gar Monastery, the telephone receiver went on with the sound of “Vajra Kilikilaya…” during the gap between conversations that resembles the metaphor of a broken beehive. All beings become Buddhas and recite the mantra altogether with the overwhelming humming sound that comes when a beehive is broken. That is the “great accomplishment”.
